FAQ
What kind of design do we do?
We offer identity and branding, print design, illustration, web design, and motion design, and we’re open to new types of projects. We like to put a touch of illustration into what we make, which gives our work more depth and artistry. Take a look at our
portfolio for samples of our past work.
Other services we offer are consultation, photography, and social network management.
What makes The Bloc Creative unique?
We have experience in both graphic design and film, which gives us a unique perspective and understanding of film design that goes beyond aesthetics. And we’ve chosen to keep our team small and personal, which means we work directly with you.
What do we look for in a client?
Our ideal client is either an individual or a small but established business, in need of good design to take them where they want to go in their industry. We especially love working with filmmakers and musicians, but we work with clients of all industries.
How much do we charge?
Our pricing is based on the type and complexity of each project, so it varies. Our process begins with a brief, in which all details of the project are discussed with the client. We then determine and send a price quote.
What is our creative process?
Our process is divided into three stages: Prep, Creative, and Wrap. We've written up a complete walkthrough that you can read
on our blog.
Do we provide free samples?
Sure! We’ve filled our
portfolio with pieces that should give you a good idea of the quality of work we do.
But we don’t provide free custom samples (i.e. logo concepts). The creative industry calls this sort of thing spec (or speculative) work and is very outspoken against it. We're not quite as fired up about it as most, but we made the decision as a matter of principle and quality.
What kind of business relationship can be expected?
The Bloc Creative is a freelance business, with two independent contractors who contribute to different parts of each job. We do not work on-site: all work is currently done from our home office, with the exception of client meetings. We also work only with one contact per client.
How does payment work?
We require a 50% deposit before any project is begun, with the remainder to be invoiced when the project is complete. We accept PayPal, check, or cash.
How long have we been in business?
We launched The Bloc Creative in January 2009. Before that, Brooke had been freelancing since 2006, and David since 2003.
Where are we located, and what are our hours?
We are based in Burbank, CA, currently in our home studio. We provide our mailing address upon request, for payment purposes.
We typically work normal business hours (9-5, weekdays only), and are available by email during that time.
