I’m in love with the colorful retro feel of Polaroid design from the 60′s, so I was very excited to open my latest issue of ReadyMade magazine to an article on Polaroid (and now The Impossible Project) designer Paul Giambarba.

Favorite quote from the interview: “The computer is wonderful, but it’ll run away with the job you’re working on.”

Stiksel

When I joined Etsy a few years ago, the first shop I fell in love with was Stiksel, a collection of home accessories by a designer from the Netherlands. Her fun collage style makes me smile, and most of her pieces are screen printed from her own artwork.

My current favorite is this super cute passport cover that is begging to accompany me on my next trip overseas.

Our little team just got a little bigger! Yesterday, we brought on a furry new guy named Oliver, whose specialties are creative motivation and playtime. In his honor, check out this gorgeous dog house from Pre Fab Pets, inspired by the work of Frank Lloyd Wright.

Ollie is a little bummed that his house isn’t quite so cool, but he’s getting by.

End of the Plain Plane

One of the stories I found most inspiring in the documentary film Art & Copy (see it, if you haven’t) was that of Braniff Airlines’ “End of the Plain Plane” campaign in the 1960′s. Led by ad exec Mary Wells, the campaign brought innovation to the tired airline industry.

Braniff’s campaign hired high-profile designers to revolutionize the formerly bland, unloved airline, bringing in Pucci-designed uniforms, 15 plane exterior colors, 57 interior variations, and carrying its new theme even to the artwork on the walls of its headquarters.

But I’ll let their ad speak for itself.

I love getting words of wisdom from fellow creatives, so I was super excited to come across the website Humble Pied: “One inspiring creative sharing one piece of advice, all over iChat.”

Humble Pied, and its latest contributor.

Created and maintained by designer Mig Reyes, the project features creatives of various disciplines, ages, and styles. And the clips are fairly short, which means you should have no trouble fitting one or two into your day!
